California Greenworks, Inc. is a 501 c 3, non-profit corporation formed to promote environmental protection, community revitalization and economic development throughout southern California urban communities.
Our organization seeks to improve the quality of urban life through various programs and projects which advocate open space preservation in urban communities, restoration of waterways, and community beautification activities. Through collaborative efforts with community groups and other non-profit organizations, California Greenworks establishes partnerships that are fundamental to effective development and successful implementation of locally-driven community programs and projects.
The reason why we recognize Earth Day is to promote environmental awareness and to focus on ways our community can live more ecologically friendly. Traditionally, SouthLA Earth Day Festival features music, art, educational displays, kid’s activities, and community forums. We want to emphasize here in South LA, that we share this planet with all humanity, and that we must learn to work together for the greater good of our community and the global village. The Earth is our only living space. We must be determined to share, protect and preserve our natural resources for future generations to come. Furthermore, we must continue to learn how to use these resources in a sustainable and responsible manner.
CALIFORNIA GREENWORKS ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PROGRAMS
The Compton Creek Community-Based Pollution Prevention Partnership Project is a community-based program design to raise awareness for water quality issues, protection and non-point pollution prevention through youth education and outreach, community forums, and demonstration projects along Compton Creeks Watershed communities i.e. Lynwood, South Gate, Watts, and Compton, California.
Open Space Preservation and Beautification ProjectsCalifornia GreenWorks works in collaboration with conservation and open space preservation organizations to help preserve open space in high-density areas through the creation of pocket parks. By converting abandon vacant properties from Brown-fields into re-usable safe neighborhood parks and community facilities utilizing smart growth techniques. California GreenWorks promotes the creation of sustainable communities by returning vacant abandon lands into habitable spaces for local residents.
Environmental Education Project, Activities and EventCalifornia GreenKids is an Urban Forestry project which is implemented as an after school community service program that target at-risk youth from grade K through 12 grades. Kids gain hands-on experiences on how to plant trees and what benefits trees have on improving air quality; energy conservation and providing habitat for birds. The youth are also able to participate in neighborhood cleanup and beautification activities. As children learn how to be better stewards of their own environment, they also learn simple life skills such as teamwork, accountability, and being recognized for contribution and performance while improving the quality of life within their neighborhoods.
